Plymstock back in business with win over Axminster

PLYMSTOCK beat Axminster by 72 runs to get their season moving again after a couple of defeats.

Skipper Scott Mansfield showed the way to go with an unbeaen 105 in Plymstock’s total of 241 for six.

Along the way there was a stand of 130 with Jack Hocken, who did more than just chip in on his way to 72,

Syed Ali made 20 and Jason Williams was unbeten on 22 with Mansfield at the end.

It was Mansfield’s first league ton since 2009 when he made one for former-club Cornwood agains Tavistock.

Mansfield hit 11 fours from 115 balls faced and was credited with a six, which was a two topped up by four fielding overthows.

Axminster were 80 for three at one stage in reply with Dan Murnane (45) and Gary Larcombe (40) among the runs.

Ali (2-14) made inroads but it was spinner Ian Whalley who did the real damage with five for 43.

Axmsinster subsided from 133 for five to 169 all out once  Whalley got among them.

“it was very pleasing to get back to winning ways = after the two heavy defeats,” said Mansfield.

“The bad news is that Jack Horton will now be out for a few weeks having stopped a ball with his ankle last week.

“He has a fracture and we are still waiting to find out how long he'll be missing.”
