Shaldon teetering over relegation precipice

SHALDON Optimists remain in a precarious position at the wrong end of the C Division East following their 102-run defeat by Feniton.

Two go down from the division and Shaldon are third from bottom with two games to go.

Filleigh are 13 points behind Shaldon and Kentisbeare trail a further behind.

Shaldon go to Barnstaple & Pilton this Saturday, then it’s back to Hazeldown to play Filleigh in what looks like a tough final game of the season.

Feniton hit 250 for five against Shaldon, led by veteran opener Graham Tucker with 80 not out.

Tucker put on 85 for the third wicket with Mark Kingdon and 59 for the fifth with Alex Frankpitt (23).

There as no let up in the dying overs either as Feniton skipper Jon Pyle made a brisk 25 with Tucker in an unbroken stand of 53.

Gary Day’s nine overs only cost 14 runs, but didn’t earn a wicket.

Carl Woolnough and Andy Espley had two wickets each, but not cheaply.

Shaldon were all out for 148 in reply – Dan Woolnough (31) edging Carl Woolnough (29) for to scorer.

Best of the rest was George Thomas with 17.

Shaldon were fading fast at 85 for five, got to 113 for six then lost their last four wickets for 20 runs.

Ben Allen (3-43) shaded the bowling stats from Pyle (2-28) and Adam Ramcharran (2-25).
