Abbots add 6'5" pace bowler to armoury

ABBOTSKERSWELL have picked up a 6ft 5ins pace bowler for the season ahead, which starts away to Brixham this Saturday.

Jake DeArago – he plays Aussie rules too – has just finished knocking them over for Strathdale Maristians in the Bendigo Association.

He is no stranger to English conditions having spent two seasons in Yorkshire with Armitage Bridge CC.

James Fulner has added another club to his collection, switching from Bovey Tracey to Abbots in search of regular 1st XI cricket.

Steve Bowman, a middle-order bat and left-arm seamer, has declared himself fit for the season having missed most of 2013 due to injury.

All-rounder Richard Lake has left for Hampshire, but didn’t play regularly last season.

Abbots were two places and six points clear of the second relegation spot last season. They only won twice in the second half of the season.

Skipper Dickie Acton, who misses the first two games as he is taking exams, has a simple aim for the season.

“With a bit more strength and a bit more experience I hope we can avoid another relegation dog fight,” said Acton.

Abbots open the season away to old rivals Barton, who are might be an outside bet for promotion.
