Wakeley would like a few more runs please!

BRAUNTON lost thier way on the chase against Axminster as they went down to a 35-run defeat.

Johnny Hurford top scored for Axminster with 69 – he and Gary Larcombe (14) put on 53 for the first wicket – and with Joel Seward making 34 the home side made 179 for nine.

Pick of the bowlers for Braunton was Jon Baglow with three for 17.

Braunton looked in reasonable shape at 65 for two, then wickets started to fall and 94 for five was less impressive.

Although Dave Cresswell (38) and Mark Mitchell made some headway, it wasn’t  enough to stop Braunton being bowled out for 144.

For Axminster captain Tristan Wakeley it was a decent performance, but maybe there is room for improvement?

“Jon and Gary once again gave us a brilliant platform to build an innings, but other than Joel Seward no one pushed on to make our total 200-plus,” said Wakeley.

“Bowling-wise Joel and Nick Pryor started us off well again, and every time a bowling change was made a wicket fell.

“There were brilliant spells from young Matt Pile (2-19) and Dan Fuzzard (2-25).”
