Devon Disability vs Essex Disabilty
Devon beat Essex convincingly in league match at Cornwood

On an extremely hot day at Cornwood, Devon won the toss and chose to bat first and made their opponents suffer in the heat. After a slow but steady start, openers Jayesh Bhagat and Perry Sprung guided Devon at 22-0 after 10 overs. Bhagat was then run out for 15 by a direct hit which brought Mike Beer into the middle and he stroked the ball around nicely to settle himself in. Sprung was bowled a few overs afterwards with the score at 38-2 after 18 overs, this brought captain Karl Beasant to the crease with Devon needing to up the run rate if they were to post a competitive total. Beer and Beasant's differing styles of batting complemented each other brilliantly and they pushed the score up to 130 after 30 overs with the help of a number of extras, Karl was then LBW for 18 and Mike Beer was out shortly after for a brilliant 54. Matthew Beasant then entered the crease with Paul Jelley, both played themselves in well and along with some aggressive running and powerful hitting pushed the Devon score on to 197 for 4 after their 40 overs, Matt finished 16 not out and Paul 22 not out. This was Devon's highest score of the season and on a used wicket with a slow and large outfield was a terrific performance and had a number of big hitting batsman not required in the pavilion.

Devon then bowled Essex out for 86, The 2 opening bowlers removed an opening batsman each with the new ball and Essex never recovered. Brian McGee then took two wickets for 7 runs, one bowled and another caught. This left Essex 4 wickets down and with the prospects of facing Devon's 2 high quality spinners Matthew Beasant and Jayesh Bhagat, a victory looked a long way away and so it proved as Matthew Beasant ended up with figures of 5 overs 3 maidens 4 runs for 1 wicket with him beating the bat on no fewer than 8 occasions thanks to his massive spin. Bhagat helped in cleaning up the rest of the tail and returned figures of 14-3 with his off spin.

Devon now look forward to some friendly games as a warm up for their final league game of the season against Hampshire at Paignton.
