Winners 2013:  South Devon

Match Report North Devon vs. South Devon - Friendlies format following cancellation due to rain.
West Buckland School, April 14th 2013

The North Devon District Cricket season started last weekend and, disappointingly brought the rain with it again! Not to be put off the U13 and U15 teams managed by Jan Witheridge and coached by Frances Lausen and Mark Overton switched to indoor cricket using the excellent facilities at West Buckland School. The atmosphere was tremendous with vociferous support for both teams from the balcony.

The U13 team playing a 20 over match in the morning saw Carmen Clements (NDCC) take two good wickets, Kinna Yewdall (NDCC), Chloe Rose (Hatherleigh), Rose Ball ( Bideford CC) and Morgan Harrison Hooton (Filleigh) one. Libby McNally shone both in batting and bowling for the South scoring 21 not out and taking two good wickets. Daisy Meadowcroft (NDCC) captained very competently and steered her team to a solid victory. She l;ed by example with some terrific wicket keeping that saw only 7 byes in the game. Kate Williams (Filleigh) and Morgan Harrison Hooton along with Rose Ball batted solidly and the North passed the South score of 155 in the eighteenth over.

Match Report South Devon vs. East Devon
Shaldon Optimists Cricket Club, April 28th 2013

On yet another very cold day (though dry!) the girls from the East met the South at Shaldon Optimists, Teignmouth.

After winning the toss the South put the East U13s into bat.  With some very tight bowling from the onset from Ellie Ingham Hill (7-2) and Emily Martin (19-2), the South kept the East’s girls struggling for runs.  With the fall of the seventh wicket with only a score of 32, the innings look set for a quick end; however Annie McShane and Jo Jo Baylis had something to say about that when they came to the crease and with a great partnership of 25, allowed the East to bat their overs out with a score of 104. There were some great catches from Libby McNally (15-1) and Jas Dawe (16-1) from the South.

In the South’s innings the first wicket fell in the third over, but the solid partnership between Lucy Andrew (not out 19) and Libby McNally (10) gave the South a great chance; and when Ellie Ingham Hill came to the crease and batted positively, though sadly run out for her 20 runs; Emily Martin scored the winning runs facing her second ball, hitting a boundary to give the South their first win, with ten over remaining. Tight fielding by both the South and the East made both teams at times work for their runs.

Match Report East Devon vs. North Devon
Cullompton Cricket Club, May 5th 2013

North Devon won the toss and put the East into bat on what was a fine and sunny morning at Cullompton CC. Some tight bowling early on from the north bowlers, and the ball swinging for Rose Ball, saw the fall of the first wicket in the third over to a full pitched late swinging delivery from Ball. This brought Millie Attwell to the crease who scored freely until being trapped LBW by Carmen Clements for 11. Beth Cooper was next in and continued to keep the scoreboard going but also fell to Clements, bowled for 16. Wickets then fell at regular intervals, mainly to Clements, but the East managed to get to 123 all out in the 26th over. Bree Nessling holding things together at the end to finish top scorer with 20 not out. Clements finishing with magnificent figures of 5-15 of her 4 overs.

After a confident start from the North openers the East bowlers found their rhythm and started to take wickets. An excellent direct hit from Millie Attwell to run out Daisy Meadowcroft started a steady flow of wickets with the north going from 28-2 to 55-6 in eight overs. Rose Ball offered the most resistance for the north but she fell for 9 to a sharp catch at silly mid-off from young Emma Corney. In the end the north were all out for 64 in the 21st over.

It was a fantastic game of cricket played in the right spirit by both teams and our thanks got to Cullompton Cricket Club for looking after us so well on the day.
