Match Report  South Devon vs. North Devon
Cockington Cricket Club, April
21st 2013

Early season cricket is not easy and this was definitely the case at Cockington today where the South Under 11 took on the North Under 11. The North won the toss and put the South in and it quickly became clear that it was going to be a low scoring game. There was only one four hit all day by Archie Christopher who top scored for the South with 29 not out. Jack Moore bowled well getting Luke Medlock caught and bowled after battling hard for 12, finishing with figures of 3 for 14. Cole Harford also batted diligently for his 10. The South ended up with 113 for 8 after their 40 overs.

The North found themselves in a similar situation to the South, finding the bounce of the wicket hard to score off. Good bowling from Ollie Blakeman 2 for 12, Luke Medlock 3 for 6, Jake Davey 9 for 13 an Harold Retalick 2 for 7 meant the North found themselves 34 for 8 however a great fight back lead by Ollie Hannam, who carried his bat through the innings scoring 16 and Joslin took their total to 89.
Luke Medlock then finished with two wickets in two balls.

A good game played in a great spirit in challenging conditions for both players and spectators. Our thanks go out to Cockington Cricket club especially John Mather for letting us play there and to Roger Tolchard for Umpiring.

Match Report  East Devon vs. West Devon
Whimple Cricket Club, April
21st 2013

The East entertained The West at a decidedly damp and chilly Whimple CC on Sunday and with only nine players available to play, The West faced an uphill battle from the start.

East were asked to bat first, and achieved a score of 184 all out in the 37th over. Some effective bowling and two wickets each for Alfie Hagan-Burt, James White and Abraham Kopparambul , rattled the top-order batsmen, but the East regrouped and enjoyed a couple of steady partnerships between Sam Read & Max Hancock, and then James Horler & Will Oxland (the latter top scoring with a fine 44).

Whilst the East’s innings included a scattering of well-placed shots, many wickets fell rather cheaply due to poor shot selection and some iffy run calling.

The West started their innings well and at 61 for 3 after 18 overs, looked capable of posting a decent score. East captain Max Helston then chose to bring on his spinners and Max Hancock and Will Oxland both took three quick wickets to skittle out the remaining batsman with no further runs being scored.

As with The West, The East were not without injury problems and it was great to see Tom Putt doing so well behind the stumps, following a last minute reshuffle of the team.

It’s been a long cold winter and despite the unsavoury conditions, it was a relief to finally get the season started. Well done to all the boys and a very big thank you to Whimple CC for hosting the match and for their excellent hospitality.
