SHOBROOKE Park defeated Exeter by six wickets in a high-scoring encounter in Division One of the Island Cricket Exeter T20 League.
The city side posted 161-5 from their 20 overs, with opener Sean Morris carrying his bat for 109 not out. 15 extras were the next top score! Andy Steer took a tidy 3-26 for the home side.
Shobrooke’s chase was anchored around Dylan Blignaut’s 98 not out as they cruised home with two overs to spare, Exeter’s George Greenway’s taking 2-51.
Clyst Hydon’s visit to Thorverton fell victim to a waterlogged pitch at the Station Road Ground.
Game of the day was in Division Two, where Topsham St. James found themselves in trouble at 40-5 at Clyst St. George before Nick Horne’s blistering 115 not out took them to 144-5 from 20 overs.
Mike Johnson’s 3-6 from three overs was miserly for Clyst.
The home side looked unlikely winners in reply, despite Nick DuBuisson’s 43 – needing 60 off the final seven overs – but Fred Turner (43no) and Dan Takle (29no) turned on the gas as Clyst snatched victory from the final ball of a pulsating match.
