The Devon Cricket Groundsman’s Association opened its season earlier this month with an evening seminar at Sidmouth Cricket Club. The event attracted over thirty delegates drawn from Club Groundsmen and umpires from the Devon Association of Cricket Officials.
Setting out to cover the key elements of ‘what makes a good cricket pitch’ the evening was presented by Martin Ford who managers the Performance Quality Standard scheme on behalf of the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Delegates had travelled from right across the county to listen to an interesting and varied programme on the preparation of good pitches for Club Cricket and how umpires could accurately assess pitches as part of their DACO match duties.
