Ivybridge back in promotion contention

IVYBRIDGE breezed to a six-wicket win over Axminster that rekindled their interest in the B Division promotion race.

The Bridge are now fourth in the table, 13 points adrift of second-placed Thorverton.

Axminster collapsed from 103 for two to 125 all out after Johnny Hurford (35), Paul Miller (32) and Joel Seward (20) got them off to a promising start.

Ramesh Perera (2-31) and Jeewan DeSilva (2-12) gutted the middle-order leaving Pete Abraham (4-27) to mop up the rest.

George Thompson took three catches behind the stumps on his return to the side.

Abraham took three wickets in four balls to flush out the tail.

The chase was routine with Andy Johnson (34) and DeSilva (39no) largely taking care of it in a stand of 61 for the third wicket.

“it was our best bowling and fielding performance of the season so far,” said skipper Gareth Andrews.

“Having a quality keeper again made a real difference.

“Very happy to get over the line chasing after wasting good positions over the last couple of weeks.”
