Success for Devon at the OSCAs

Success for Devon volunteer at Lords

On a drizzly day in London the sun shone on Exmouths' Richard Butler, who won national recognition in the form of a Natwest OSCA for his volunteering skills, whilst a further 3 of Devons' volunteers (Lloyd White, David Gambie & Bert Mitchell) were rewarded for their own volunteering success with a trip to the home of cricket.

Richard was rewarded for his outstanding achievements in organising Exmouth Cricket Club's hugely successful Natwest CricketForce weekend in Spring 2009. Over 70 volunteers attended the 3 day CricketForce event and a club estimate of the work completed was in excess of £10,000. Richard enlisted the support of club members young and old and many local businesses to ensure the event was a success. His visionary and innovative leadership was deservedly recognised at Lords and he will go down in the hall of fame as the 2009 national OSCA winner in the category of 'Natwest CricketForce'.

The Natwest OSCAs (Outstanding Service to Cricket Awards) is the ECB's way of saying 'thank you' to just some of the 30,000 volunteers involved with cricket. Each county board in the country are asked to run their own OSCAs event where the winners from the seven different volunteering categories are announced and invited to attend the national OSCAs event. At the national event the finalists are treated to a tour of Lords and a marvelous lunch during which the national OSCA winners are announced. A video from the event is available to watch by clicking here.
