Exeter Schools U13 Indoor Cricket

4 secondary schools from the Exeter area participated in the U13’s boys tournament (St Lukes, St Peters, West Exe and St James). The tournament was played in a round robin format which allowed all teams to play one another in 6 over matches using the Devon Cricket Indoor Format. There was a lot of high quality cricket played by the teams, with all teams scoring more runs on a game by game basis as the tournament progressed.

St Peter’s School proved to be too strong all round and came out as eventual winners of the tournament. In each of their match’s openers Tye and Matt were able to get away to good starts to lay the foundations for some high scores. The batters were backed up by James’s bowling who twice found himself on a hat-trick (but unable to convert).

St Lukes won two of their matches and did run St Peters close in the final match, opener Ben and Tom were dominant in all of the St Luke’s games, with Louie in particular providing excellent back up with the ball.

St James and West Exe both performed extremely well in the final match and fully entered into the spirit of the tournament by ensuring that all of their players made a contribution to the game.

Good luck to St Peters as they progress through to the County Finals.

East Devon Schools Under 15’s Indoor Cricket 11.12.14
At East Devon Tennis Centre – Exmouth

6 teams from 4 schools entered this year’s East Devon U15 competition. The Exmouth A team made themselves at home by cruising through their group with a couple of comfortable wins. Honiton defeated Kings B to also qualify for the semi-finals. Meanwhile in pool B Sidmouth made short work of both opponents whilst Exmouth B pushed King’s A all the way before falling just short.

The two third placed teams played off for the 5th and 6th spots with Exmouth B bowling Kings B out for 53 runs and then knocking them off in 4.1 overs. The “A” teams of the same two schools met in the first semi-final with a low scoring game coming out in favour of Kings. They scored 68 from their 10 overs and despite smashing 19 from their final over Exmouth fell 10 runs short of victory. The second semi-final was equally exciting with Sidmouth overcoming Honiton to secure the chance to retain the title they won last year!

Sadly for Sidmouth it was not to be. Tight bowling and the regular loss of wickets meant they were bowled out for 65 in the 9th over. King’s batted steadily and kept wickets in hand before reaching the target with two and a half overs to spare. For them, the County Finals beckon!

Plymouth SSP Boys Indoor Cricket
U13 and U15

With three teams in each of the age groups it was all to play for from the off.

The first match in both age groups was Devonport High School for Boys (DHSB) versus Heles and at first it looked to be a close competition, however as time progressed and the bowlers warmed up DHSB showed that they were the stronger side taking both wins.

Under 13 - Heles 39 v DHSB 81

Under 15 - Hele's 41 v DHSB 105

Heles took on Plymouth College next and again the bowling and batting skills of the young cricketers was superb. Both age groups took on the eight overs with vigour, however Plymouth College took the wins in both age groups.

Under 13 - Heles 10 v Plymouth College 51

Under 15 - Heles 28 v Plymouth College 70

The final games saw Plymouth College take on DHSB to see who would be crowned champions and go on to represent Plymouth SSP at the County Finals in January. Once again the standard of batting, bowling and fielding was excellent.

in the end DHSB took the win in the under 13's age group after some excellent batting, whilst Plymouth College took the under 15's. Good luck to both teams who will take on teams from across the county in January.

Under 13 - Plymouth College 38 v DHSB 68

Under 15 - Plymouth College 84 v DHSB 61

Well done to all six teams involved and a big thank you to Heles School for hosting this event and supplying the brilliant leaders.
