DEVON COUNTY SENIORS CRICKET CLUB ON TOUR TO CANADA

Devon Seniors will shortly depart on their seventh overseas tour when they visit Western Canada.  A record number of tourists will leave the UK on Thursday 24 July 2014 and return on Monday 11 August 2014.

With 38 tourists on board everyone is excited at the prospect of visiting Victoria. Vancouver and Banff and of course the mighty Canadian Rocky mountains. Moose Elk, Wolf and Caribou await us and with luck Black Bears and Grizzly.

38 tourists in all with 17 players and 5 games of cricket split between Victoria on Vancouver Island and on the main land itself where they will play a special game against a Vancouver Invitational XI at the famous Brockton Oval, Stanley Park. This is the ground that Bradman said “The Brockton Point ground is the prettiest upon which it has been my pleasure to play.  It is really a magnificent setting”.

The tourists will visit all of the famous attractions in the Rocky Mountains including travelling on the Ice Field Parkway to the Athabasca Glacier which has recently been voted one of the ten greatest road journeys  in the world.

A trip on the Glacier in a giant all-terrain vehicle has been booked for the tourists. The following day, Lake Louise ‘The Jewel of Canadian Rockies’ will be visited and the beautiful marine blue water of Moraine Lake.

Many other attractions will be visited throughout the tour and it is hoped that in Victoria the tourists will be lucky when they travel by boat and hopefully see the three pods of killer whales that visit the shores of Vancouver Island at this time of the year.

This will be the second Seniors tour to Canada and we all look forward to visiting old friends and making new friends. The hospitality and generosity of the Canadian people and cricketers are unsurpassed.
