Dartington & Totnes end wait to win Aaron Printers Cup

AT last! Drtington & Totnes (above) finally got their hands on the Aaron Printers Cup following a nail-biting 12-run win over Torquay 2nd XI.

D&T had appeared in the previous three finals and lost them all – so lifting the trophy meant a lot to skipper Ryan Stevenson.

Torquay’s young side – skippered by 15-year-old Neal Osborne – refused to give up right to the bitter end and D&T were relieved to kill them off with an over to go.

After Bertus Loots (29) and Angus Wilson (15) helped Darts post 32 for the first wicket, Stevenson (24) and Jono Colgate (32) kept the board whizzing round to 103 for four.

James Howrihane with 28 at the end got the tally up to 148 for four.

Pick of the bowlers from four-over spells were Osborne (2-26) and Tom Marrow (2-22).

With Marrow in full cry in the chase, Torquay reached 96 for four and Darts’ total didn’t look enough.

The turning point was a run-out involving Sonny Singh (23) and Marrow, who was on 58 when he was the man to go.

Stevenson, who bowled four overs for 13 runs, got the brake on at one end as Torquay started to slip behind the clock.

Will Gornall then took a role in proceedings, running through the middle order on his way to figures of five for 15.

They were impressive figures by the left-armer and earned him the man of the match award from Bob Dickinson. Pictured, right

With give overs to go Torquay needed 45 to win with five wickets in hand and it proved beyond them. They were all out for 136.

Dartington & Totnes 148-5 (J Colgate 32, J Howrihane 28, Bertus Loots 29, R Stevenson 24; N Osborne 2-26, T Marrow 2-22), Torquay 136 (T Marrow 58, S Singh 23; W Gornall 5-15, J Colgate 2-20). Dartington & Totnes bt Torquay by 12 runs.
