Torquay through to Aaron Printers Cup semi

TORQUAY are through to the last four of the Aaron Printers Narracott Cup, and a date with Stoke Gabriel in the semi-final, after beating Paignton by seven runs in a high-scoring thriller.

Opener Tom Marrow made 87, and Ben Francis 66, as Torquay amassed 180 for five in their 20 overs.

After Tim Francis fell to veteran Terry Farkins for four, Marrow and Ben Francis put on 93 for the second wicket.

Spinner Harry Ward broke the stand by removing Francis, but Marrow carried on with support from Neal Osborne (13) before he was third out on 167.

Paignton captain Tim Ward tried seven bowlers to slow the rate. None were more effective than Farkins (1-24) and Mike Pedley (1-30).

Paignton were undaunted by the size of the task in front of them and set off in hot pursuit with Pete Taylor (23), Dan Wolf (53) and Connor Ashworth (33) getting the score up to 117 for two.

Max Brewer intervened at this point and his four for 24 slowed Paignton’s charge.

Farkins kept going with Wolf though and splitting them up proved crucial.

Brewer bowled Farkins (25) at 154 for six then Tim Francis (2-14) had Wolf caught by Marrow.

Paignton finally ran out of steam on 173 for nine.

No date or venue for the semi-final has been fixed yet. Any clubs who can offer a neutral venue next week – Tuesday or Thursday – are asked to contact competition organiser Conrad Sutcliffe on 07767 622530.
