North Devon League swings into action

NORTH DEVON LEAGUE – WEEK ONE

THE Farm Cottage Holidays North Devon Cricket League got under way for the 2011 season on the second Sunday of April.

The one game played was at Barnstaple where Incorrigibles were the visitors for a Division Two meeting that the hosts won, at something of a canter, by 82 runs.

Barnstaple batted first and the honour of scoring the first runs in the league for the new season fell to James Rowe who neatly struck the fourth delivery of the opening over off his toes to the boundary. Rowe went on to hit 26 and that was also the score from Robert Holme but the top two Barum batsmen were George McEndoo and Andrew Barton who each posted scores of 42 in a total of 181-8 from the 45 overs. Ryan Bowden (4-15) and Matt Weeks (4-41) were the principle wicket takers.

The Witheridge based visitors were then bowled out for 99 with only Ben Franks (17), Matt Weeks (15) and Dave Gooding (12no), into double figures.

The Barum bowlers were on top after the tea interval led by Steve Moore who took 2-9 from nine splendid overs. Yaz Iqbal finished with 2-17 from his nine but the main wicket taker was Jack Popham who finished with 4-29 and he also had the honour of bagging the first wicket for the club in the league this season.
