Booker Wholesale to sponsor Devon Cup for next three years

THE Booker Wholesale Devon KO Cup swings on May 24 when Budleigh Salterton entertain Tavistock in the preliminary round.

The catering wholesaler has signed on for three years as the competition sponsors, replacing Tolchards, who have taken on the Devon Senior League.

Dave Siddall, the area manager for Booker Wholesale, said he was looking forward to getting around the competition as the rounds unfold.

“It is a perfect fit for us as we branches in the four corners of Devon close to the clubs taking part,” said Siddall.

“I am looking forward to meeting people from the competing clubs, enjoying some cricket and getting the chance to offer our services to clubs.”

There will be a bonus for finalists in this season’s competition as Booker Wholesale will be presenting both sides with vouchers to be used in their branches in Barnstaple, Exeter, Plymouth, Paignton and Newton Abbot.

Stuart Munday, the Devon League chairman, said he looked forward to working with Booker Wholesale.

“Sponsors want more than just their name on a cup these days – they are looking at sponsorship as a business opportunity,” said Munday.

“Booker fit the bill perfectly for a sport like cricket as every club has a kitchen and a team of tea ladies who need a supplier.”

Budleigh were due to play Tavistock last Sunday, but the game was called off as the Ottermouth ground was suffering from waterlogging.

The change of dates has caused Budleigh a problem as they were due to play Warwickshire tourists Kenilworth on May 24.

Lloyd White, the Budleigh Salterton captain is looking for a club to take the game on, rather than let the tourists down.
