Lions on the prowl at Brixham

BRIXHAM are to host a game between the Devon Lions and South African tourists Futura Sports.

Brixham's former overseas player, Patrick Steytler (2002-04), is bringing over a team Futura Sports to participate in the World Cup Last Man Standing competition being held at Lord’s at the end of August.

Futura Sports are coming to Devon for a short cricket tour, playing a Brixham Invitation Xl on Tuesday 20th and Cornwood on Wednesday 21st.

The game against the Lions is at Boundary Park on Sunday, August 18.

When Steytler played for Brixham the club operated from a ground in Northfields Lane.

In 2009 Brixham moved the short distance to Boundary Park as part of a £2million deal which saw their former ground sold to a housing developer.

Brixham are proud of their new ground and would like to see the full county side play a match there.

Hosting the South African tourists is part of the process.

“Over the past couple of seasons club members have expressed a desire to host a Devon Lions game,” said fixture secretary Andy Jago.

“This opportunity lends itself ideally to see if our facilities and organisational skills meet senior county requirements.”
