Brockman Cup first round results

NOAH Wright and Tom Blundell both hit half centuries as Paignton beat Torquay by 93 runs to reach the quarter finals of the Brockman Cup.

 

Wright made 66 and Blundell 50 as Paignton quickly recovered from the loss of opener Dan Wolf.

 

Mark Ashworth weighed in with 36 as Paignton amassed 183 for four.

 

Torquay’s bowlers had problems keeping the runs down with Dave Carter (0-15 off 4) the notable exception. Mike Sedgman’s four overs cost 53 runs.

 

Neal Osborn’s 46 was as good as it got for Torquay, who were held to 86 for eight in reply. Only Owen Flower (16) joined him in double figures.

 

Pick of the bowlers for Paignton were Sam Woodcock (3-22), Harry Ward (2-19) and Charlie Slough (2-14). 

 

BRIXHAM were not detained too long by Stoke Gabriel chasing down 62 to win.

Issac Withington (26) made the only score of more than seven on Stoke’s all-out total of 61.

There were two wickets each for Matty Edwards and Rhys Dallow and three for A Edwards (3-18).

Joel Ashworth anchored the Brixham reply with 27 not out – including a six to win it off the bowling of Dan Bullock Dallow made 19.

Ben Robinson took the bowling honours for Stoke with three for 16.

IPPLEPEN beat Barton by 26 runs at Cricketfield Road after setting 162 for five batting first.

Skipper Simon Tapley top scored on 36 with Matt Quartley chipping in with 30.

Adam Last took three wickets for Barton – and top scored too with 40 when they batted.

Last didn’t get the support he needed though and Barton slowed to close on 126 for nine.

BABBACOMBE handed Lustleigh a walkover as they were unable to raise a side.
