PAIGNTON are
into the final of the Brockman Cup following an eight-wicket win over Ipplepen
in the Friday night semi at Torquay Recreation Ground.
It was a close-run thing though as Paignton only had
four balls to spare when they passed the Pens’ impressive total of 171 for
eight in the 20-over competition.
Chris
Partridge (30), Sam Wakeham (29) and Jonny Ranjit (24) were the leading run
getters when Pens batted.
Liam
Talbot (38) gave Paignton a solid start then George Benton (86no) and Tom Field
(31no) kept the chase going.
The
target was down to five off last over, which was never going to be an issue
with a short boundary on one side.
Paignton
will play either Barton or Brixham, who meet at Torquay tonight (Tuesday) in
the second semi-final.
Ipplepen
171-8 (C Partridge 30,S Wakeham 29,J Ranjit 24; M Williams 2-34,T Field 2-36),
Paignton 175-2 (G Benton 86no,L Talbot 38,T Field 31no). Paignton bt Ipplepen
by 8 wkts.
BRIXHAM
reserved their place in the Brockman Cup final after getting home by nine runs
in a close-run game against Barton.
An early burst by Barton seamer
Stuart Bowker (4-18) had Brixham on the back foot as George Northcott and Wes
Fowler departed without troubling the scorers.
A fifth-wicket stand of 61 between Tim Robinson and Adam Edwards
helped Brixham to respectable 133 for six in their 20 overs.
Luke Adderley (39no) and Alex
Hunt gave Barton a solid base before the latter was runout.
A fourth-wicket stand of 63
between Adderley and Adam Last (42) gave the innings more momentum.
Once Last departed the innings
subsided and 18 to win off the last over proved too many.
The final takes place at Torquay Recreation Ground this Friday (July 2).
Brixham 133-6 (A Edwards 47no, T Robinson 29; S Bowker 4-18), Barton
124-6 (A Last 42, L Adderley 39no, A Hunt 22; C Barron 3-19). Brixham bt Barton
by 9 runs.
