Frustrated Budleigh hope for third time lucky

BUDLEIGH Salterton are looking to channel their frustrations into beating Cornwood this Saturday.

While everyone else in the A Division played last week, Budleigh had to call off against Bradninch due to a waterlogged outfield.

Two inches of rain in less than a week had left the ground sodden in places and by Thursday it was clear the game wouldn’t go ahead.

Budleigh, in common with the rest of the division, didn’t play to a finish the previous Saturday when most cricket in the county was rained off.

Lloyd White, the Budleigh captain, said the team will arrive at Cornwood ‘full of optimism and energy’.

He added: “Missing the first two games has only made us more hungry to get back out on the field.

“We know we are visiting the in form team and they are the early season pace setters for a reason.

“It will just be good to get back out on the pitch.”

Returning to the side are batters Sam Richardson and Rob Craze.

Adam Jones, who took four for 33 against Exeter last week in the 2nd XI, is promoted.

“A big blow for the Otters is that seamer James Leat is having a hernia operation next week and is expected to be out for at least a month.

“Its a real blow for us as James has probably been our best bowler in pre-season,” said White.

Bradninch, who have had two weeks off as well, are due to entertain Tavistock.
