C Division 2nd XI - Thors batters both score tons
Thorverton's ton-up pair Harry Choules and Ben Lyne

RUN-TASTIC! Seventeen year old Ben Lyne and 15 year old Harry Choules put on 209 unbeaten for Thorverton 2nd XI against Clyst St George.

The pair came together when the score was 68 for three after Alan Tait had previously hit a quickfire 39.

Lyne finished his innings on 107 not out and Choules on 103 not out when Thorverton declared with the score on 278 for three off of 44 overs.

Clyst St George never really looked like having ago and were 101 for three at the halfway stage when the heavens opened and put paid to any further cricket.

Jock Spry, Thorverton’s youth coach and 2nd XI skipper said: “It has yet to be confirmed but we believe the partnership with both batsman reaching 100 not out is a new fourth-wicket club record.

“It is great to see that all the hard work and commitment put in by the many coaches within the youth set up at Thorverton is now paying off in our senior teams. Well done lads!”

Plymouth CSR totalled 221 for nine in the top-of-the-table clash against Cornwood – James Gradwell making 95 and Ben Pitman 44 despite some canny bowling from Dave Petherbridge (4-55).

Cornwood were 30 without loss in reply when rain stopped play.

Half centuries from Mike Etherington (84), Kris Davis (63)

and Chris Hurrell (55) helped Kingskerswell reach 282 for eight against Clyst Hydon.

With Mike Oberholster (34no) and Stephen Doyle (28no) forcing the reply along to 72 without loss, it appeared Clyst were going for it when the rain came.

Barnstaple & Pilton were well placed at Honiton before hopes of their first league win of the season were washed out.

Craig Lapping (53) and Alex Brinsford (47no) had top scored for the Lacemen in their total of 175 for nine – Matt Clarke taking two for 45.

Dave Lodder (26) and Clarke (29) had B&P 23 runs behind with three wickets intact at the early close.

Yelverton will take some convincing that they weren’t robbed by the elements in their match against Shobrooke Park.

Tom Watkins (88), Gerry Keen (66) and Ian Loze (34) all chipped in towards a total of 246 for six declared. Youngster Dan Pyle took three for 61.

Graham Jones then took three for 13 as Shobrooke declined to 24 for four.
