Meredith after a safe season

CLYST St George’s new captain John Meredith is keen to take the team up the table in 2013 after a diffident campaign last year.

Meredith, formerly with Plymouth and Exeter, arrived at the Bohea Field mid-season just as Clyst were changing captains from Chris Cook to Steve Bourke.

Having started promisingly, Clyst dropped down the table and at one stage a second successive relegation was a possibility.

It all came good in time to stave off the drop, but a final slot of eighth wasn’t impressive.

Said Meredith: “After last season the main ambition has to be avoiding getting involved in another relegation dog-fight.

“If we can finish in the top half of the table that will be a sizeable improvement on the past couple of years.”

Bourke, CSG’s overseas player, will be back in mid-May to bolster the batting line-up.

By then CSG should have a keeper in place, rather than relying on Meredith to stand-in.

Long-serving Nick Dubisson has moved away while Craig O’Dwyer is still injured from last season.

Bowler James McGregor has moved into the area and joined the club. Outgoing is Kevin Coe to Exmouth.
