Darts reach fourth successive Aaron Printers Cup final

DARTINGTON & Totnes are on the way to the Aaron Printers Cup final for the fourth year in a row following a 28-run win over Babbacombe in the last four.

Darts have appeared in every final since 2011 – and have lost them all so far.

Skipper Ryan Stevenson will be hoping 2014 is the year when D&T’s luck in the competition finally changes.

Jack Marwick top scored with 63 not out in D&T’s 20-over total of 137 for five.

Marwick and Jono Colgate (38) shared a crucial stand of 89 for the third wicket after Darts lost their first two wickets before reaching double figures.

South African seamer (pictured) A J Van Wyk (3-17) proved a handful for D&T, who had to see off his first spell before getting going.

Marwick’s 63 included five fours, three sixes and a two.  The other 23 all came in singles!

Babbacombe’s bowling was mostly efficient, although skipper Steve Broad won’t want reminding his two overs cost 35 runs.

Babbacombe were all out for 109 in reply having struggled all the way through to keep up with the run rate.

Losing free-scoring Andy Kingdon in the second over to Ryan Stevenson to a blinding catch at slip by Marwick didn’t help – then Mike Pugh was picked off a well as Babbacombe dipped to 12 for two.

Van Wyk (26) and Broad (24) put on 63 for the third wicket, but at 78 for four with five overs to go the odds were stacked against Babbacombe.

Matt Inch crashed a quick 20, but once he went Babbacombe fell apart swigning the bat.

Stevenson returned to finish with four for 12 and Gavin Colgate (2-22) worked through the other end with Dave Carter as Babbacombe’s last six wickets went for 11 runs.
