Dumplings off to winning start

DEVON Dumplings opened their season with an emphatic victory over Exeter School in a 40-overs game at the school.

The Dumplings posted an impressive 276 for seven with Exeter’s new Aussie, Callum Still, leading the way with 54 and the Abbotskerswell trio of Richard Ashworth (48), Josh Dowling (47) and Chris Kelmere (47) making notable contributions.

Kelmere smacked three sixes and Clyst St George’s Steve Bourke hit two more in his quickfire 22 not out at the death.

Nick Mansfield took two for 45 and Will Wells two for 44 but the School bowlers where rather profligate, contributing 30 extras in no-balls and wides.

When the School replied the going was slow, with veteran Bernie Wilson capturing an early wicket and bowling his eight overs for just 10 runs.

Wickets fell regularly, the last falling in the final over, as the School managed a meagre 137 all out. Bourke took three for 14 and Still three for 24 for the Dumplings.

Devon Dumplings 276-7 (C Still 54, R Ashworth 48, C Kelmere 47, J Dowling 47, S Bourke 22n; W Wells 2 -44, N Mansfield 2-45), Exeter School 137 (S Bourke 3-14, C Still 3 -24). Dumplings bt Exeter School by 139 runs.
