2nd XI East Divisions - Exmouth feel the power!

2nd XI D east

JIM Wensley took 7-21 as Exeter III powered to a nine wicket home win over Exmouth III. Aaron Conway (38) and Callum Wade (21) top score form the visitors whilst Drew Smith claimed 3-53 in support of the Wensley show. Adam Fradgley then wasted no time hitting an un beaten 71 to lead the hosts over the line for the loss of the one wicket, that taken by Lucy Burch (1-17).

Ten player Upottery II won a thriller at Axminster II where they chased won 262 to win by one wicket. Danny Bicknell (68) and Colin Ledbetter (650 scored the bulk of the home ruins as Steve Jennings (4-046) and Bruce Inglis (3-46) combined for the visitors. Jennings then top scored with 65 and skipper Dan Prettejohn chipped in with 40 as Upottery got home with their penultimate pairing at the crease on 2566-8. Teenager Sam Farrow claimed 5-54 for Axminster whose undoing was undoubtedly a whooping 75 extra’s!

Uplyme & Lyme Regis II banked 14 points from an abandoned affair at Kentisbeare II. Pete Barraclough (55) and Tim Daniel (53) led the visiting side to 227-8. Michael Cook (3-330 and Tom Darling (2-52) were the main wicket takers for the Kents who were 138-6 when rain curtailed proceedings. Gary Benzie top scored with 30 and skipper Tom Wilkinson was unbeaten on 22 at the close. Alex Rattenbury took 3-28 for visitors.

North Devon III took 13 points from an abandoned match at Whimple II. A Tyres (50) led the Instow side to 184-5. John Bardot took 3-363 and there was a splendid 13 overs return of 1-21 from Adrian Whitton.

Skipper Barry Wright then hit an unbeaten 40 and Daniel Williams hit 13 as then hosts closed on 111-7. John Phillips took 4-20 for the visitors.

E Div East 2nd XI

JONATHAN Tattershall followed up his unbeaten 41 the week before with 74 not out to lead Kilmington II to a nine wicket triumph at Topsham St James II,. The Bonfire Field side were restricted to 119-8 with Michael Micklethwait (3-23) and Maurice Bevis (4-17) the principle wicket takers. Alex Sparkes (32) and Neil Argyle with 29 were the main home run scorers.

Kenn II took ten points from an abandonee game at Halberton and Sampford Peverell where Josh Richardson took 3-27 as the home team closed on 225-9. Tim McDonald (36no) and S Passmore (34) then led Kenn to 83-1 at the premature close.

Mark Mortiboys with an unbeaten 89 and an unbeaten century in the previous two outings hit another half century, though this time he was out on 55 as Cullompton II were 116-4 in reply to visiting Seaton IIs 259-6 when rain washed out play. Alex Hunt hit an unbeaten 101 in the Seaton innings.

There was a tie in the game at Cheriton Fitzpaine where Axminster IIIs Dave Gadsden claimed the last two of his seven wickets with the Cherries on the same score as the Axminster offering of 191! Peter Kai hit 69 and Simon Flint 19 in the Axe men’s innings. Steve Frost (3-44) and Robbie Keight (2-47) were the principle wicket takers for Cheriton who then saw Jim Cutler (52) and Mike Foan (39) help take them level with the visitors on 191-8 when Gadsden took the last two wickets to finish with 7-75.
