Baggs looking for a reaction

EXMOUTH captain Richard Baggs is looking for a reaction from his players when Bovey Tracey visit the Maer this Saturday.

The defending champons went down by four wickets to Heathcoat in their opening Premier outing of the season.

Baggs said Exmouth didn’t play badly, but you get nothing but bonus points for losing now draw cricket has been scrapped and  there is no room for nodding off in games.

“It was one of those early season pitches where the side batting second should have an advantage – and we were stuck in first,” said Baggs.

“Heathcoat are a young side and fielded well to help keep the score down.

“I thought we battled well to get 167 – and when we got Sam Smith fourth ball early in their innings I felt we had a chance.

“Penberthy batted well for them – he found the gaps well – I have played against Adams before and know what a fine player he is.

“just when it seemed we were out of it, Matt Webb came back on and took two wickets in two balls – the first one Adams.

“Gary Chappell got Penberthy in the next over and 130 for three was 132 for six and we should have been right back in it.

“Then we slacked off and for five overs played some very poor cricket.

“What we should have been doing was nailing the doors shut, but once they got to 150 they were always going to get over the line.

“Losing one game isn’t the end of the world. There are 17 to go and a lot can happen.

“What I want to see is a reaction against Bovey  and a return to our winning habits.”

Exmouth bring in Ollie Dawe, who couldn’t play against Heathcoat due to a registration error. He replaces Lawrence Greenway, who has tonsillitis.
