Exmouth spruced up by CricketForce crew

Work under way painting the Exmouth pavilion as part of NatWest CricketForce weekend

EXMOUTH members braved the weekend downpours to take part in the annual NatWest CricketForce self help programme.

Among the schemes carried out were painting sightscreens, cleaning the tea marquee and decorating of the front of the newly re-vamped pavilion.

Members were helped in this last project by members of NatWest Bank, Exmouth and their families.

“Fortunately several projects had been carried out on the previous weekend so much of the overall programme was completed,” said chairman Richard Buttler.

Attention now turns to the forthcoming cricket season.  This Friday night is an opportunity for colts and new members to register from 6pm.

On Saturday afternoon there is a friendly against the Gloucestershire side, Forchester, weather permitting.

There’s a lot going on at the Maer right now as the defending Premier champions are working across the board to improve facilities.

Exmouth recently secured funding from the Olympic Lottery Fund and Viridor Credits Landfill Communities Fund to provide a new heating system and showers and a disabled toilet in the Pavilion and new cricket nets.

“Special thanks go to the Sports Council and Viridor Credits Environmental Company and ClubTurf and Whitescape,” said Butler.

“Many local organisations, local authorities, schools and individuals lent their support to these improvements.”

Devon Cricket Board chairman Jim Wood, in his capacity as Exmouth president, will officially open the new facilities on Friday, May 9.
