Spinners turn game Devon's way

DEVON dodged between the showers to record a win over Gwent in a friendly at Brixham.

Ben Philips took the batting honours with an impressive 76 not out as Devon posted a first innings total of 184-7.

Ben’s knock included 10 fours with an array of impressive, attacking shots, especially straight drives which is something the squad worked on during the winter workshops.

Alex Hannam chipped in with a valuable 21 not out at the end of the innings for the home county.

Gwent were restricted to 149-8 in their 40 overs. It was spinners Jack Lockwood (2-12) and Harry Ward (2-18) who took the pace off the ball well to turn the game Devon’s way.

Devon 184-7 (Phillips 76no, Hannam 21no), Gwent 149-8 (Lockwood 2-12, Ward 2-18) Devon won by 35 runs.
