Lady Taverners U11s Softball County Final Report
As the season gathers momentum girls cricket is an integral part of that. With more girls playing in either hardball boys teams or all girl hard ball sides the future of girls cricket looks bright throughout the county. However the bi-product of that being less take up for softball cricket in 2014. With the great success of last year with 10 teams or so entering the Lady Taverners Softball competitions, this year we are down to 4. Nevertheless the four teams which competed showed great enthusiasm for the game, and some great skills to boot.

Like last year the delightful Chagford Cricket Ground on Dartmoor was the venue for the 2014 county final which saw Tarka Girls, Paignton, Chagford, and Topsham St James cricket clubs compete for the trophy and to go through to the regional round of the competition.  Teams played each other in a round robin format competition which provided great opportunity for the girls to have a go at all disciplines of the game.  Some closely fought games were played by all on the day. The game of the day was a closely contested encounter between Tarka Girls and Paignton, with Paignton batting first scoring 266 for 0 in response Tarka played positively in there 8 overs and amassed 288 for 0, this game showcased some clean striking by the 11 year old girls who even managed to club some straight sixes in the game.

Coming out on top at the close were Tarka Girls who won every game they played and deservedly qualified for the regional round at Frenchay Cricket Club in Bristol on Monday 28th July. We wish Tarka Girls all the best representing Devon in the regional round.

Thanks goes to Chagford Cricket Club for hosting the day and also our two umpires Ken Jeffery and Peter Jolliffe for superbly officiating the days proceedings.
