Marais back at Lewdown for assault on A Division

SOUTH African batsman Marco Marais, who terrorised B Division bowlers last summer, will back with Lewdown for the season ahead.

Marais slammed 1,357 runs, including an undefeated double century against South Devon, as Lewdown swept almost all before them on the way to winning the B Division title.

Only Tavistock, who beat them twice, got the better of Lewdown during the season.

Lewdown will be operating in the A Division for the first time this season and were keen to get Marias back.

He is still scoring runs for Border, making half centuries and more in one-day and First Class competitions, so Lewdown are delighted to have him back.

“Marco seems to be maintaining a healthy strike rate over there,” said Lewdown skipper Harry Geering,

Geering has a few more targets in his sights, but doesn’t plan to facelift the whole team.

“We are looking to add one more player to our first team, along with a player-coach, who it is looking hard to find,” said Geering.

“Other than that we are going to bring in a couple of youngsters who played the odd game for us last season and give them a chance.

“We are hoping the Williams brothers will be back from uni and college as early as possible to strengthen the club.

“As always we will be looking to do as well as we can, but getting used being in a division we have never been in before, along with bringing on our youngsters, will be what we are looking to achieve.”
