Hatherleigh at home in NDL top flight

NORTH DEVON HOLIDAY HOMES LEAGUE - WEEK FIVE

HATHERLEIGH have adapted very well to life in Division One and they joined Newton Tracey as joint top of the fledgling table after an impressive win over Heathcoat.

A week after putting North Devon to the sword, Heathcoat were beaten by 49 runs at last years Division Two champions Hatherleigh.

Andrew Collier (48), Gareth Tidball (43), Mike Jones (30), Simon Gillespie (30), Andrew Fishleigh (22) and Rob Cockwill (22no), all contributed to the home cause in a total of 262-9.

Liam Lewis bagged a brace of wickets for the Mid Devon side who were then on their way to a successful run-chase, led by Lewis (81). However, an astute bowling change brought Simon Gillespie into the attack. He promptly removed the dangerous Lewis and went on to claim 3-5 in just 2.4 overs to guide the hosts to victory.

The other top-flight game was at Braunton where Filleigh cruised to an emphatic nine wicket win. Only Martin Seward (45) and Stuart Rhodes (32), made any impression with the bat for the hosts as they were bowled out for 189. Jaz Kalsi took 3-32 and then led the successful run chase with an unbeaten 79. Rob Collier was the only visiting bat to be dismissed, he went for 50 to Rhodes.

DIVISION TWO

BARNSTAPLE & Pilton are the early pace setters in Division Two and they consolidated top spot with a fourth successive victory, beating hosts Shebbear by 90 runs.

Brady Saunders (50), James Rowe (47) and Andrew Barton (42), led Barum to 241-9. Ollie Wickett (3-30) was the only home bowler to have much success and then only Matt Law (31) made any impression with the bat as Jack Popham, Matt Clarke, skipper Henry McEndoo and Saunders (pictured), each bagged a brace of wickets.

Tim Hill struck the biggest individual score of the day. The Morebath batsmen hit an unbeaten 178 (he also scored a double century the day before playing in a Somerset league game), as Morebath closed on 252-7 at Incorrigibles. James Hope then hit an unbeaten 60 and there were useful knocks from Jake McDonald (52) and Matt Weeks (46) but the Witheridge based side’s reply ended on 186-4.

Lynton and Lynmouth were denied action by a sodden Shobrooke Park wicket that suffered from Saturday night rain.

DIVISION THREE

HALBERTON skipper Dan Coles hit his second unbeaten century in three innings with an unbeaten 109, leading his side to an eight wicket win over Bude at Sampford Peverell.
