Wyatt-Haines and Sale accept Somerset scholarships

DEVON youth graduates Ollie Sale and Sam Wyatt-Haines have been offered Somerset CCC scholarships for 2015.

Sale (Exeter) and Wyatt-Haines (Bovey Tracey) played through the age groups for Devon before being talent spotted.

Wyatt-Haines was initially with Nottinghamshire, but transferred to Somerset this time last year to get more contact time with coaches.

Both graduated from the Somerset Academy programme last summer,

Sale will be part of the process from mid-June when he returns home from university. Wyatt-Haines will be involved from the start of the season.

Fast bowler Sale, who had a couple of five-wicket hauls in the Premier Division for Exeter last summer, said: “I am delighted to be awarded a scholarship by Somerset whilst I am at university in Newcastle, having been something I have worked for very hard on the academy for the last two years.

“Obviously this is only the primary step in my journey to becoming a first class cricketer, and hopefully thorough the relationships I have already made at Somerset I can fulfill my potential – whatever that may be!”

Wyatt-Haines, a batsman who also bowls, said: ‘The scholarship is an incredible honour and I am looking forward to further increasing my involvement with SCCC.

“My experience with the Academy over the past year has been brilliant, and it has developed my game significantly giving me the chance to be considered for and offered this scholarship.”
