South Dartmoor retain indoor titles
CHAMPIONS! The winning South Dartmoor U13 side

SOUTH Dartmoor College retained the U13 indoor cricket title they won last year at the 2013 competition at Torbay Leisure Centre.

The competition was organized by the Dartmoor School Sports Partnership.

South Dartmoor got off to a good start, winning their opening two games to put them into the top group with both teams from Newton Abbot College to play off for first place.

South Dartmoor and Newton Abbot A beat Newton Abbot B meaning the final game to decide the winners would be between them.

South Dartmoor batted first and racked up an impressive 69 for three. Newton Abbot were 25 for six in reply.

South Dartmoor were also reigning champions in the U15 competition and got off to a good start winning their opening two games to put them into the semi-finals against Teign B.

The other semi-final was between Stover and Teign A.

South Dartmoor and Stover both made it through to the final with both teams winning all of their games up to that point.

Stover batted first scoring a competitive 50 for the loss of two wickets.

South Dartmoor got off to a good start and should have won with several balls to spare, but excellent bowling and fielding from Stover meant that the final scores were tied.

A bowl out was the only way to decide the winners with South Dartmoor coming out on top.

Both teams will compete at the county finals after Christmas.

With 13 teams taking part in the competition, numbers were up on last year.

Scott Chappell, the community cricket coach for South Devon, said: “The standard of cricket was incredibly high, and there couldn’t have been a closer final than the U15 one where it went to a bowl out.

“What was really pleasing to see was the Spirit of Cricket being upheld by all the boys and the games been played in an excellent atmosphere.”
