Shobrooke looking for a revival

THINGS can only get better for Shobrooke Park, whose B Division campaign gets up and running with a trip to Lewdown.

Shobrooke were relegated from the A Division last September with just three wins on the board.

Strength in depth was Shobrooke’s problem last season, evidenced by the 2nd XI finishing bottom of their table with just one win and nine defeats from 11 matches.

Skipper Justin Dollow has some new players to work with this summer and the boost in numbers can only be good for Shobrooke’s prospects.

“We have signed Chris Simpson, an Australian left-arm quick bowler and middle-order batsman, and are pleased to have Phil Anning after a season of Premier League experience with Exmouth,” said Dollow.

“A few of our players who were not able to play last season, which caused our 2nd XI some problems, are available again, including Mike Searle which will help to strengthen the depth in the club.

“We have also signed a new youngster, Nick Ladd, for the 2nd XI.

“We have a couple more prospects we are working on, so our pre-season efforts whilst not as successful as we had hoped, have provided some positive results.

“Dan Pyle is a year older and after a successful Devon youth tour to South Africa, has looked very good in the nets.

“Once Dan’s school cricket commitments are fulfilled, I expect he will become an integral part of our 1st XI.

“There is going to be some competition for 1st XI places, which could mean our 2nd XI having regular appearances by some of the club’s more experienced players.”

Shobrooke’s only loss during the winter has been Peter Steer back to Sandford.
