Heathcoat all out for lowest score in Premier this season

HEATHCOAT crashed to a 206-run defeat against Premier champs Sidmouth after being bowled out for the lowest total in the top flight this season – and that after Matt Hague had taken a hat-trick.

Former Heathcoat keeper-batsman Pete Randerson top scored with 69 and Luke Bess made 61 in a Sidmouth total of 247 all out.

Heathcoat were dispatched for 41 in just 15.3 overs with Scott Barlow leading the assault with five for 20 from an unchanged eight-over spell. Dan Babula took three for 20.

Heathcoat have had some lows with the bat before this season – 90 all out against Bovey Tracey, 48 against North Devon – but 41 was the worst.

The good news for Heathcoat is they were safely clear of the relegation zone going into the match.

Having spent most of the season hovering in or around the bottom three there are issues to address next season.

Take out Qassim Adams and his four Premier tons - that’s not been done before in an 18-game Premier season – Toby Lochead with 440-plus and the reliable Sam Smith and there hasn’t been a lot from the rest of the batters.

More batting firepower has to be top of the wish list for skipper Sam Smith next season if Heathcoat are going to avoid another difficult time.

Ex-Heathcoat skipper Liam Lewis (44) and Will Sobczak (24) put on 65 for Sidmotuh after the early loss to Devon captain Josh Bess to Paul Elliott.

Lee Dixon (2-32) removed Sobczak then Lewis and when Jack Menheneott spun out Anthony Griffiths the visitors were 82 for four.

Randerson and Bess put on 129 as Sidmouth accelerated to 211 for five with five overs to go.

Then Heathcoat seamer Hague performed a hat-trick – Randerson, Bess and Barlow and finished with four wickets in five balls that over by removing Will Murray.

Hague added Matt Cooke and Charlie Miles to his collection to finish with six for 71 from eight overs. An interesting spell to say the least!

Lochead didn’t survive the first over from Barlow and with Smith, Dylan Penberthy and Adams going in a hurry Heathcoat were four for nine in the sixth over.

Dan Powell and Dixon were in and out by the time the score reached 16. Jason Parr (12) and Menheneott (13) delayed the inevitable for half-a-dozen overs before Charlie Miles (2-1) wrapped things up.

Heathcoat wind up with the short trip to relegated Sandford this Saturday.
