Thorverton break with tradition at awards night

THORVERTON broke with tradition at their end-of-season presentations by giving their top award to an overseas player for the first time.

Aussie all-rounder Dan Beatty was leading bowler – he took 28 wickets – and topped the run chart with 356 at an average of 35.6. His name went on the trophy for 2014.

Other leading run scorers were Dave Baldock – he cracked 310 – and James Hope with 257.

Jake Choules (25) wasn’t far behind Beatty in the wicket-taking stakes, with next best Jake Crouch (18).

Second team player of the year was 19-year-old all-rounder Jack Stirling.

Matt Millward won the 3rd XI player of the year award for his solid batting. He made 207 runs.

Millward didn’t look out of place in the 2nd XI either, where he scored a further 169 runs.

Christian Cabburn, a 15-year-old batsman who made his 1st XI debut in 2014, won the Kobi Griggs young player of the year award.

There were numerous nominees for the Simon Molyneux Clubman of the Year award.

Among them were the Rice family for bar work, the Crouch family for hosting Dan Beatty and Julie Choules for sorting kit and memberships.

The overall winner was 3rd XI player Paul Jordan for cooking at the club nearly every Saturday night and helping John Hill and Charlie Andrews with our ground.

The awards night was staged in the function suite at Exeter City FC.
