Tickets on sale for Ward foundation dinner

THE Trevor Ward Foundation’s annual fund-raising dinner takes place at the Riviera Centre in Torquay next Friday.

The charitable trust was set up in 2007 in memory of Trevor Ward, who for nearly 50 years was a permanent fixture on the Paignton sporting scene.

Trevor, a teacher, played for, captained and served as an administrator at Paignton’s rugby and cricket clubs. Both clubs made him a life member.

He played rugby for Devon in the 1960s at fly-half and carried on training with the club past his 60th birthday.

Trevor was also a member of the Devon O50s cricket squad between 1985-91 and played in the side that won the National O50s’ title in 1988, beating Lancashire in the final.

The foundation set up in his memory helps sportsmen and women- individual and teams – to realise their sporting potential.

Inevitably, cricketers and rugby players feature on the list of beneficiaries, as do skiers, rowers, athletes and teams.

The annual dinner at the Riviera Centre is a vital part of the charity’s fund-raising work.

Tickets cost £40 per person for a four-course meal and entertainment from compere Ady Byng and the funk covers band 3BF.

Tickets are available from trustee and event organiser Nigel George on 07887 514597, of Dave Siddall on 07849 843365.
