McKinley White T20 draw published

Playing conditions - 2012

SIDMOUTH have been handed a bye all the way to the semi-finals of this season’s McKinley White Twenty 20 Cup competition.

Entries are down on 2011 as a number of lower division clubs have decided to stay away. Among them are Woodbury and Exeter Civil Service.

“That’s a shame as it has caused an imbalance in the number of matches,” said Graham White from the sponsors, who are backing the tournament for a fifth year.

Devon Premier Division clubs are excused playing in the first round and kept apart in the quarter-finals by seeding.

Holders Exmouth – they whipped Sidmouth by nine wickets in last season’s final – will face the winners of the first-round tie between Topsham or Countess Wear.

Budleigh Salterton are away to either Clyst St George of Shobrooke Park.

There will be an all-city derby at The Chronicles where Alphington are set to entertain Exeter.

The semi-finals and final will take place at County Ground, Exeter on July 8. The semi-final draw will be made after the second round has taken place.

Exmouth went on to represent the East Devon region in the county T20 final and were crowned Devon champions after defeating Bradninch at Cornwood.

The next challenge was a South West final against St Just, which Exmouth lost.

Regional winners go through to a  finals day televised b y Sky, which last year took place at Cardiff.

First round: Clyst St George v Shobrooke Park, Topsham St James v Countess Wear. To be played by May 24.

Round Two: Clyst SG or Shobrooke Park v Budleigh, Topsham SJ or Countess Wear v Exmouth, Alphington v Exeter. Bye: Sidmouth. To be played by June 14.
