SUNDAY, JUNE 10

PLYMPTON gained revenge for losing the Devon Cup final to Sandford last season by putting the holders out of this season's competition by 48 runs in the second round.
Alex Trevarthan hit 86, and Keith Donohue chipped in 60 not out, as Plympton made 234 for five in their 40 overs.

Then the Donohues dad Keith (3-25) and son Craig (3-36) combined to send Sandford slithering to 186 all out.
Adrian Small made 52 in a losing cause for Sandford, who only batted with 10 men after losing Chris Jelly with a knee injury.
Fast bowler Tschepo Legodi was Exeter's unlikely match winner with the bat as they defeated Axminster by four wickets in the second round of the Devon KO Cup.
Axminster made a respectable 205 for six in their 40 overs, built around a stand of 118 for the first wicket between Robbie Prior (82) and Gary Larcombe. David Murnane chipped in with 44.
Marshall Hood (42), Rob Holman (30) and Will Hanson (34) got Exeter up to 152 for three and all looked well. The three wickets fell for just for runs and the game was back in the melting pot.
Christian Bostock (31no) and Legodi took charge of the situation and got down to the last over needing seven to win. Legodi settled the issue by hitting two successive sixes.
Barton breathed some life into a season that isn't going well at the moment with a 31-run win at South Devon in the Devon KO Cup.
Aaron Williams' side appear to have a relegation fight on their hands in the Devon League Premier Division after losing to Chudleigh on Saturday and dropping into the bottom two.
But at least there is the prospect of a cup run to look forward to after yesterday's win.
Haydn Morgan led the way with 77 not out for Barton and put on72 unbroken for the fifth wicket with ex-South Devon player Damon Calland (33no) in a total of 201 for four.
Chris Metters (39) and Adrian Hewings (25) made early runs for South Devon, who ran into difficulties against Andy McVeigh (3-41), Tom Porter (2-21) and Adam Parker (2-30) as slipped to 119 for nine in reply.
No one told last pair Paul Hooper (18) or Henry Burningham (20no) they couldn't win the game and they got the score up to 171 before Barton finally broke them up.
There was a tight finish at Paignton were Sidmouth scraped home by one wicket in a game they appeared to have lost.
Sidmouth seemed to have done the hard bit by dismissing Paignton for 142, then collapsed to 125 for nine in reply.
The day was saved by last-wicket pair Scott Barlow (20no) and John Goodwin (9no), whose runs were more valuable in the context of the game than Anthony Griffiths 54 at the top of the order.
Paignton's batting problems were brought on by Neil Hancock, their former professional, whose three-wicket burst sent them stumbling from 54 for two to 55 for six. James Hope (40) had already gone by then.
Sidmouth appeared to be coasting until Stephen George (2-17), Mike Pedley (2-39) and Gavin Ewing (3-16) caused mayhem of their own by sharing four wickets without conceding a run on 98.
At 102 for seven Paignton could see a way back, but Barlow and former Barton keeper Goodwin got their heads down to snatch an improbable win.
Abbotskerswell never looked remotely like making 241 to win at Conwood where they were beaten by 70 runs.
Highlight of Cornwood's total of 240 all out was a stand of 79 between Jason Hall (97) and Duncan Boase (35).
Hall, who hit 12 fours and three sixes, was stumped three runs short of his century off the bowling of occasional spinner Danny Full.
Steve Short's 44 was as good as it got for Abbotskerswell, who were held to 170 for seven in reply. Steve Scarr and Full both made 29.
Tavistock only needed 18 overs to knock off the 94 runs needed for victory at Dawlish.
Brynlee Barros (3-5), Andy Gauler (2-8) and Stuart Cleave (2-16) were Tavvy's main wicket-takers as D&T were dismissed for 93.
D&T's middle order vanished in the time it took to go from 41 for one to 67 for six. Tim O'Connell (20no) showed some spirit at the end before running out of players to bat with.
An unbeaten 51 from Ian Gray, and 21 not out for Steve Luffman, put Tavvy into the quarter-finals.
Bovey Tracey overwhelmed a depleted Chudleigh side by 76 runs after making heavy going of reaching 163 for nine themselves.
It needed a touch of the long handle from last pair Ryan Bougard (17no) and Charlie Carter (31no) to add 51 in the last four overs.
Chris Bradley (6-12) and Charlie Carter (3-21) short Chudeigh out for 87. Simon Rooke made 27 and survived most of the 28 overs his side occupied the crease before being bowled out.
Plymouth Civil Service were dumped out of the competition by Plymouth, who thrashed them by 147 runs at Beacon Down.
Dave Bayliss (5-54) was the only Civil bowler to pose too many problems for Plymouth – and three of his wickets came when the slog was on in the last two overs – as the score rattled along to 229 all out, Chris Barr made 53, Callum Whittaker 41 and Hansantha Fernando 36.
Civil never recovered from being 39 for five and were bundled out for 82 by Dave Burke (4-25) and Luke Minnet (3- 8).
