Division Three

THERE was a close encounter at Creedy Park where leaders Incorrigibles beat Sandford II by three wickets with five balls of an enthralling contest remaining.

Both teams went into the game having won each of their previous three outings. Batting first the home side had posted a decent total of 223.

Skipper Simon Ashplant (35) and Richard Tucker (85) put on 94 for the first wicket and later a typically robust 73 from Mike Canning helped move the total on before the last five wickets fell without a run being scored! James Hope (3-23), Carl Bremmer (2-22) and Matt Weekes (2-42) took the wickets.

Incorrigibles got a solid start with former Sandford player George Greed (52) and Bremmer (27) adding 73 and there were middle order runs from Luke Weeks (36) but at 151-6 with nine overs remaining it looked more likely the home side would claim a fourth straight win and end the unbeaten start of the visitors.

James Hope though, had other ideas and he set about the bowling to hit an unbeaten 74, supported by Ian Pilkington (17no) and Incorrigibles sealed the win off the first ball of the final over of the day.

Home skipper Ashplant was the most successful of his side's bowlers with 3-43 but there was also a most welcome return to Creedy Park for the talented Scott Boardman who claimed 3-45 in his first game for nearly two years for the club.

Division Four

WEARE Giffard were beaten for the first time this term and were therefore knocked off the top spot they shared with Victoria Park II after going down by a single wicket at Halberton.

Mike Hedden (52), Ian Jury (50) and Scott Huxtable (37) scored then lion's share of the Weare Giffard runs as Jeremy Turner (3-25), Richie Durrant (3-47), Thomas Radley (2-36) and Greg Maher, who sent down nine overs for his 2-14, claimed the wickets for the home side.

The run chase was led by Greg Maher (47) but from a position of some comfort at 167-4 the Mid Devon side tumbled to 177-8 but skipper Dan Coles stood firm whilst wickets fell around him and it was he, with John Geary at the other end, who saw his side to a single wicket victory, scoring the winning runs to end the game unbeaten on 42.

Lynton & Lynmouth II won their first game of the Division Four campaign but it was not enough to lift them off bottom place.

Graham Fitt totally dominated proceedings at the Valley of Rocks where visitors Kelseymen batted first and scored a healthy 216-8 led by James Wallis (56). Connor Constable took 3-41 and there were also a couple of wickets for Tristan Jones and Fitt.

The reply was a one man show as Fitt spanked thirteen 6's on his way to an unbeaten 161. All this after Chris Hatt was run out for 5 whilst Barney Haywood went, caught by Charles Brigden off the bowling of Harry Booker for 9.

The other home not out batsmen was Tristan Jones with 38, but this was Fitt's show and he fittingly struck the winning runs with a four.
